Saturnus månar

Planeten Saturnus har 53 namngivna månar och ytterligare 29 som fortfarande studeras. Många av månarna är mycket små: 33 månar är mindre än 10 km i diameter och tretton månar är mindre än 50 km i diameter. Många av månarna är uppkallade efter titaner, jättar eller mindre grekiska eller romerska gudar. Några av Saturnus månar är mycket stora; månen Titan är större än planeten Merkurius.

Hypotetiska månar

Två månar påstås ha upptäckts av olika astronomer men har aldrig setts igen. Båda månarna sägs kretsa mellan Titan och Hyperion.

  • Chiron som Hermann Goldschmidt påstås ha sett 1861, men som aldrig observerats av någon annan.
  • Themis påstods ha upptäckts 1905 av astronomen William Pickering, men har aldrig setts igen. Trots detta fanns den med i många almanackor och astronomiböcker fram till 1960-talet.
